The AnnoyingPCB lived up to its name. I bought it to prank a coworker, and let’s just say it got a much bigger reaction than I planned. Hiding it turned out to be trickier than expected. My brilliant plan to put it in the ceiling tiles went awry when it went on a nosedive and disappeared ten feet into the wall cavity.

Needless to say, I panicked a little. The beeping started funny, but the humour wore thin fast when my coworker realized it might be stuck for a very long time (the product description wasn’t kidding!). After a good eight months, we finally came up with a (somewhat ingenious) plan to fish it out with a magnet on a string. Success!

Retrieving it was an adventure in itself, but the prank itself was undeniably effective. Would I recommend it? Absolutely, but with a cautionary note. This device is a prank powerhouse but be prepared for the beeping to potentially last for a long time. Also, consider how easy it will be to retrieve if hidden in a tight space.

It might be a good idea to invest in some earplugs for yourself too, just in case the retrieval isn’t as smooth as mine!

Annoyatron review
Annoyatron good design
Nice example of an annoying PCB. The long battery life is handy. I feel like this device needs a case or someway to protect the PCB from shorting out against conductive surfaces. I’ve had a few versions of this kind of device over the past 15 years and this one is the nicest yet. I like the on/off switch and I like the mode selection options. The “Cricket” chirps are the easiest to find, the high frequency noises are the hardest to find. Note that many older users will not hear the higher frequency noises and some of my coworkers can’t even hear the cricket chirps. The delay between chirps is long, and allows the user to forget about it until it activates again. Luckily, it’s infrequent enough to not be “annoying”.We take turns hiding this in someone’s cubicle. It usually takes a day or two if you’re actively trying to find it and it’s hidden well.I designed and 3D printed a case to protect the PCB. I added magnets to hold it to metal surfaces and the magnets also hold the cover on.
